For the second time this week, robbers kill policemen in Ekiti

Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado Ekiti Another tragedy hit the Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday as robbers killed a policeman simply identified as Inspector Gada; and injured another known as Sergeant Sunday. It was learnt that the robbers escaped with a Police van. The incident took place in Ilupeju, in Oye Local Government Area of the state. A resident who refused to give his name said, “I think the policemen were returning from a check point in Itapa and got to another check point between Ilupeju and Oye, right in front of the house of Hon. Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, when the robbers, who had laid ambush for them, swooped in on them and rained bullets on the policemen. “And by the time the robbers were through with the onslaught, the team leader who we know as Inspector Gada was dead, while Sergeant Sunday, who was seriously injured, has been rushed to the hospital. “The incident happened at about 5am.” The state Police Public Relations Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, while confirming the attack said that a policeman was killed, while the one that was seriously injured has been rushed to the Federal Medical Hospital in Ido, Ido-Osi Local Government Area of the state. “Meanwhile, we have commenced investigation into the incident and will ensure that we not only get to the root of the matter, but also bring the perpetrators to book in a short while,” Adeyemi said. It will be recalled that the Police command lost their paymaster, Idowu Taiwo, on Monday. Taiwo was found dead on Monday morning with his hands tied to the back in a car in Ajilosun area, after being kidnapped on Sunday night by unknown gunmen.
